2019 Outstanding Business Awards
Close to 270 attended the MBCA Outstanding Business Awards for 2019 in the Civic & Arts Centre Millicent on Sat August 10th. This year we had 181 nominations and 101 nominees. Chairperson Lee Morgan introduced comedian Tim Rochow to warm up the crowd and act as master of ceremonies for the night. Lee then welcomed everyone and thanked all the sponsors that make the event possible.
Winners of the awards were
Construction/Trades/manufacturing : Graham & Julie Reilly Builders
Hospitality/Tourism : New Heaven Indian Restaurant with Merit awards to The Somerset Hotel and The Shearers Cook Cafe
Service Award : Millicent Veterinary Clinic with a Merit award to Hands with Heart Massage
Retail Award: Fosters Foodland
Agriculture/Horticulture/Viticulture Award: Mayura Station
Employee of the Year: Fiona Thompson from Resthaven Limestone Coast with Merit awards to David Tully from Millicent Hospital and Michelle Skeer from South East Property Sales & Management
Young Employee of the Year: Brandon Jones from IGA with a Merit award to Sally Sapiatzer
Community Spirit Award was won by McCourts Garden Centre
The highlight of the night was when 2 joint winners were inducted into the Hall of Fame: Laura & Vicki Hair designers and Pierinas Hair & Body Concept. Both received a standing ovation.
Once again we had amazing support from 19 sponsors. The Major sponsors were The South Eastern Times, Radio5THEfm and Wattle Range Council. Other sponsors were NBC Financial Services, KA McMillan Design & Drafting, The Somerset Hotel, The Medical Clinic Millicent South East Property Sales & Management, Win TV, Komma Media, Steve Chapple photography, Cockys signs, Fosters Foodland, Millicent Rotary and Mayor Des Noll. Decorations were provided as sponsorship by Millicent Florist, McCourts Garden Centre, Banner Mitre 10 and Andrew Leslie.
Tasting boxes were supplied on each table by The Shearers Cook Cafe. Supper was provided by the following MBCA members. The Somerset Hotel, The Grand Hotel, Woolworths, Acky’s Takeaway, New Heaven Indian Restaurant and Andy’s Bakery.
After the awards JB & Crowey entertained the crowd and there was plenty of action on the dance floor.
Community Spirit Award
The Community Spirit award is sponsored by Fosters Foodland in memory of the late Mr Bob Foster who set the bar for us all to aspire to in community commitment and has been followed on by Brian and David. There must be clear evidence of Outstanding Community work involving the business to benefit the wider community. Must be Millicent owned. |

MBCA Hall of Fame Inductees
A highlight of the MBCA annual business awards is the announcement of the business to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The recipient of the MBCA Hall of Fame Award must have been in business consistently for 25 years or more, owned by the same owners or have been in the same family for that time, must be Millicent owned and must have shown outstanding use of their business to benefit the wider community. This award is sponsored by the Mayor of Wattle Range Council.
